Approved waivers clear way for City School projects

Barbourville Independent received some good news at their regular board meeting held May 17: the three construction waivers they submitted the week prior to the Kentucky Department of Education were approved.

The three specific waivers were for a teacher workroom, a first aid room and a site-based decision making council office in the school’s expansion project. In the case of the first two, BIS already has workrooms and a first aid room in place that are a better fit for teachers’ needs and requirements than new additions would provide. For the latter, BIS does not currently have a site-based decision making council on staff, thus argued they did not need an office.

After submitting these waivers to KDE, they were all approved, saving the school time and money on the project and providing more space in the administrative suite for office spaces.
