The Barbourville Tigers earned a district victory over the Lynn Camp Wildcats Thursday night at Barbourville’s Shirley Treadway Activity Center.
Lynn Camp won the first two matches of the night. They won the first match 25 to 18 and the second match 26 to 24. Both were close scoring matches as the two evenly matched teams were pinned against each other. Refusing to lose, the Tigers came out fighting at the start of the third match.
Barbourville won 25 to 23 and went on to win the fourth match 25-18. District games are always the best three out of five matches, but if the fifth match has to be played, they only go to fifteen. Both teams earned two wins, so the fifth match had to be played and the Tigers won that one as well 15-9.
Head Coach, Kim Smith, was thrilled about the win, “It ties us with the most wins ever in the program at three and it is the first ever district win for our program.” This is Smith’s third year as Barbourville’s head coach and she has seen a lot of growth in the program as the team went from not winning any games their first year and only two games last year. “My girls have worked very hard to improve and it is nice to see the results and to
see everything finally fall into place. I am proud of the way we fought back to win the game against a very good Lynn Camp team” exclaimed Smith.
The Tigers will be playing again on Thursday at home at 6 against Middlesboro.
