Barbourville man dies after being shot

A Barbourville man passed away Monday at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after being shot Saturday.

Kentucky State Police Troopers Chad Gregory, Jonathan Carlock, Josh Messer and Detective Jason York, along with Knox Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call Saturday that a man had been shot on Turner Loop Road in Barbourville.

There they located Ford Collett of Barbourville, who had apparently been shot by Jason Marsee of Barbourville.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Collett had gone to Marsee’s residence and an altercation took place. Collett suffered a single gunshot wound and was transported by Knox County EMS to the Knox County Hospital. He was later flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Marsee was arrested at the scene after troopers discovered he had an outstanding warrant not related to the incident. At this time, however, Marsee has not been charged for the shooting.

The body has been sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy to find out the exact cause of death.

The case will be presented to a Grand Jury in Knox County.

Detective Jason York is continuing the investigation.
