A body was found outside of Swan Pond Baptist Church on February 11 by a churchgoer just before the 11 a.m. service. Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins identified the deceased woman as Stacy Hobbs, 33, of Barbourville.
Hobbs’ body was found lying in a drainage ditch that discharges into the Cumberland River which runs alongside the church.
While not much information is available just yet, the body will be sent to Frankfort to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and to find out the cause of death.
“KSP along with the Coroner’s Office doesn’t feel that the death is a result from the flooding. Foul play can’t be determined at this time,” said KSP Post 10 Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs.
KSP Detective Jake Wilson is continuing the investigation. The Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Barbourville City Police Department and Knox County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
