Barbourville Police Department made the holidays a little brighter for 19 Knox County children.
Thanks to donations from caring citizens, city police raised enough money to allow each child $125 to Shop With a Cop at Barbourville Walmart.
Nine police officers, along with their families, were paired with a child. The children picked out clothing, shoes and toys to purchase.
“Most of these kids come from families with multiple children,” explained Barbourville Police Chief Winston Tye. “This was something the children kept in mind. Several picked out toys to give to their siblings rather than themselves.
“It’s good to give the kids the opportunity to go through the store and pick out what they want. Many don’t normally get that opportunity,” said Chief Tye.
