City School Board approves salaries, updates security company

While schools are facing several uncertainties in the upcoming school year, Barbourville Independent trucked on, setting the 2018-19 salary schedules at the April 19 board meeting.

The only noteworthy change in the salary schedules from the current school year is that the School Administration Manager (SAM) position was replaced with an Assistant Principal position.

“I would ask the board to consider changing that position (the SAM position) title to assistant principal because that person has a provisional and because they deal with so much discipline, it would be more beneficial for them to be listed as an assistant principal rather than a SAMs, for us as a district,” said Superintendent L. Kay Dixon, who emphasized the title change does not include a salary increase, additional days or a change in duties and responsibilities.
