Clontz has career night, No. 25 Bulldogs roll 77-62

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Macy Clontz (JR/Lily, Ky.) put together a career night for the Union College women’s basketball team, Clontz scored 20 points as the Bulldogs rolled to 77-62 win over Reinhardt (Ga.), Sunday afternoon inside Robsion Arena.

Union wraps up the 2014-2015 regular season with an 18-8 record and 15-5 in AAC play. Reinhardt finishes with a 19-10 record and 15-5 in conference play.

The win over Reinhardt secures the number three seed for the Bulldogs in the upcoming AAC Tournament Feb. 25-28. Reinhardt will be the number four seed in the tournament.

The Bulldogs raced out to an early lead over the Eagles, an Angie Lawrence (SR/Brodhead, Ky.) jumper gave Union a 13-9 lead with 15:18 remaining in the first-half. Reinhardt battled back and exchanged baskets with Union over the next several minutes.

Union regained control of the game at the 8:27 mark in the first-half and closed out the half on an 18-6 run. Lydia Nash (JR/Florence, Ky.) contributed seven points in the Bulldogs run to end the half.

Nash led all scorers with 13 points at half while Haley Perkins (JR/Glasgow, Ky.) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. JessAnn Nix paced the Eagles with seven points.

The second-half saw the Bulldogs come out on fire. Three straight three-pointers from Clontz gave Union a 21-point lead (53-32) with 16:17 remaining in regulation, their largest lead of the game.

Reinhardt spent the rest of the half cutting into the large Union lead, cutting the lead to 60-49 with 9:06 on the clock.

Back-to-back baskets from Perkins pushed Union’s lead back to 17 points as the Bulldogs cruised to a 77-62 regular-season finale win.

Nash led all scorers with 26 points, going 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Clontz finished her career night with 20 points with 13 coming in the second-half. She made 7-of-14 from the field and grabbed six rebounds in her best game as a Bulldog. Perkins stuffed the stat sheet again with a 19-point and 14-rebound effort including three steals.

Nix led the Eagles with 16 points while Carmen Lockhart chipped in 12 points.
