Despite the tragedy of a two-year-old’s death, authorities say no charges will be filed against a Barbourville man in the death of his great-niece, 22-month-old Rylan Rose.
Kentucky State Police, Post 10, reported receiving a call at 2:44 p.m. Monday of a small child that had been hit by a vehicle on Maggie Cane Road in Barbourville.
Officials reported Scott Rose, 44, of Barbourville was operating a 2013 Ford Mustang when he stopped to wait on two small children to get out of the roadway.
Rose reportedly did not see the third child when he pulled out. According to KSP, the 22-month-old Rylan Rose fell underneath the vehicle and was struck by the back wheel.
Rylan was taken to Knox County Hospital and then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
“Scott really loved that little girl, her and her sisters,” said Rose’s mother, Dorothy Rose of her son. “He’s having a really hard way to go. He’ll never get over this. Everyone knows what a good man he is.”
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office contacted KSP Post 10 Tuesday afternoon and confirmed that the child had passed away at 2:05 p.m. from her injuries.
Police preliminary reports say drugs and alcohol were not suspected in the incident.
