The Barbourville City Council approved both a 2018 budget change and board reappointments at the regular April 5 meeting.
Fist on the agenda, Mayor David Thompson held the second reading of Ordinance No. 2018-1, an ordinance amending the June 30, 2018 budget. The first reading of this amendment was held at the March 8 City Council meeting.
Councilwoman Wilma Barnes made the motion to accept the ordinance and Councilman Sherman Lawson seconded it. The motion passed.
The modifications to the budget are due to an increase of “both income and expenses due to an increase in sale of surplus property, a KIA grant, alcohol regulatory fees, delinquent property taxes, interest income, omitted tax revenue, capital, salaries, payroll taxes, maintenance, education and training,” reads the ordinance. Total appropriations increased to $4,953,826 in the ordinance.
