Following recent flooding, a lot of waste materials have washed down to Knox County, adding to the already present trash problem. To combat this issue, Knox County Solid Waste Management is organizing a county-wide spring cleanup event on April 14.
“It’s a concern,” said Solid Waste Coordinator Mike Mitchell, who has noticed a lot of trash piling up on the side of our county roadways, creeks and communities in recent weeks. “A lot of garbage washed down on us from the flooding.”
Mitchell is calling on the entire community, including civic, school and church groups, to help with the cleanup.
“I’m just hoping to get the community involved in cleaning it up. It will be a start. You can’t get anything done until you get started,” continued Mitchell.
