A Barbourville couple was arrested Sunday and charged with drugging and sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.
According to the arrest citation, Arthur Vaught, 30, and his wife Faith Vaughn, 30, were allegedly smoking marijuana with the child. The victim told the officers at some point she had passed out, and when she awoke, she found Arthur Vaughn touching her inappropriately.
In an interview with Barbourville Police Patrolman Jake Knuckles, the girl revealed she had secretly sent a text to a friend and told her what had happened. The friend then called the victim’s grandmother, who, in turn, called the victim’s great grandmother. The great-grandmother came down to West Knox Street, picked up the girl, and took her directly to the Barbourville Police Department around 6:15 Sunday morning.
Officer Knuckles, along with Patrolman Clay Helton, escorted the victim, her great-grandmother and her father to the Knox County Hospital where the girl was administered a rape kit for sexual assault. The girl was then released into her mother’s care.
Faith Vaughn has been charged with second degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Arthur Vaughn was charged with first and second degree unlawful transaction with a minor and second degree sexual abuse.
Both were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
