A Corbin man is in the hospital following a single vehicle crash early Monday morning.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst responded to a traffic crash on Old Barbourville Road in Corbin.
According to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a 2005 Hyundai Tiberon, operated by Kaleb Cobb, 20 of Corbin, was traveling south on Old Barbourville Road at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle entered a curve, the driver lost control, lef the roadway and struck a tree.
A total of five people was inside the vehicle upon impact. An adult in the front passenger seat, Alex Minto, 21 of Corbin, was airlifted to UK Medical Center in Lexington. The three backseat passengers were juveniles, two of which had to be removed by the West Knox Fire Deparment.
The three backseat occupants were taken to Corbin Health Care Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, Kaleb Cobb, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs under the age of 21. According to his arrest citation, Cobb admitted to deputies that he had consumed four beers before driving, stating he thought he was okay to drive.
