Drug tip hotline leads to arrest

The Drug Tip Hotline continues to prove successful in apprehending drug dealers.

After receiving information through the Knox County Drug Tip Hotline, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department became aware of Donnie Gray, 57, and a plan was hatched.

On Thursday, Dec. 3, a controlled buy was made from Gray. Shortly after, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Frith conducted a traffic stop at the Shell Market in Barbourville. Frith suspected Gray of being under the influence, and a search was conducted in Gray’s vehicle. Deputy Frith, along with Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Wagner, discovered pills in an unlabeled bottle, three syringes and two straws.

Gray was arrested and charged with first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and first degree possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gray was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Anyone with information on any drug activity is urged to call the Drug Tip Hotline at (606) 595-8105
