Five indicted on sex charges

A Scalf man and woman were indicted Friday on sex charges.

M.D. Brown Jr., 39, and Rebecca Helton, 32, both of Scalf, are co-defendants in a case that involved incidents that allegedly occurred between June and August 2013.

Brown is charged with three-counts of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sexual abuse.

Helton is facing indictment on two counts of complicity to commit rape in the first degree.

The incidents allegedly involved three different victims, all of which were under the age 18 at the time.

In other sex-related indictments, Siler resident James Privett was indicted on three counts of sodomy, three counts of incest, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and one count of distribution of obscene matter to a minor.

Jason Bates, 37, Corbin; first-degree trafficking in controlled substance

Amanda Hughes, 32, Corbin; first-degree trafficking in controlled substance

James Eads, 28, Gray; manufacturing meth, improper registration plate, failure to maintain insurance, DUI, persistent felony offender

Casey Garland, 23, Artemus; first-degree possession of controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, promoting contraband

Luke Smith, 43, Corbin; first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, fourth-degree assault

Shelva L. Ray, 56, Corbin; first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving scene of accident, DUI, reckless driving

Brandon Dewayne Mills, 27, Dewitt; theft by unlawful taking, third-degree criminal mischief, attempted theft by unlawful taking

Dawn Turner, 37, Covington; receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking, possession of burglar’s tools, hindering prosecution

Sandy Rice, 32, Barbourville; tampering with physical evidence, promoting contraband, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, public intoxication, public intoxication, prescription drug not in proper container, persistent felony offender
