A Flat Lick man was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle crash on KY 718 Wednesday night.
According to a Kentucky State Police preliminary investigation, Melissa Warren, 36, of Walker, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup westbound on Ky 718 when she failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the eastbound lane of travel striking a guardrail. Warren then struck a tree with the rear portion of the truck causing it to overturn. The passenger in the vehicle, Ryan J. Baker, age 20, of Flat Lick, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner as a result of his injuries. Warren was taken by ambulance to the Knox County ARH Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Warren was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center and charged with driving under the influence, murder, leaving the scene of an accident and several other charges.
The collision is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Russell Maynard. Tpr. Sammy Faris assisted at the scene.
