Grant funding to help county with major purchases

Several Knox County entities were recently awarded additional grant funding.

At the October Knox County Fiscal Court meeting Wednesday, it was announced that both the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and Little Poplar Creek Volunteer Fire Department received grants to help with major purchases.

The sheriff’s department received a USDA grant in the amount of $43,380. The department plans to use the funding to purchase two new cruisers at a cost of $57,843, leaving the Fiscal Court to pay just the remaining $14,463.

Little Poplar Creek Volunteer Fire Department received a Homeland Security grant in the amount of $20,000 to be used to purchase equipment.

In addition to routine items, the court also announced that anyone with delinquent taxes, and whose tax bill was not sold during the auction, could still set up a payment plan with the Knox County Attorney’s Office.
