Identity of body found in river confirmed

The identity of the body found in the Cumberland River was confirmed Monday, Oct. 19 as that of Tommy Reeves, 61, of Barbourville.

Reeves had been missing since Oct. 4, when he left his residence on foot. Reeves was officially reported missing on Oct. 14 by his girlfriend. Knox County Sheriff’s Office originally handled the missing person investigation.

Reeves’ was recovered from the Cumberland River when Kentucky State Police were notified.

The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy which, according to preliminary results, indicate that Reeves’ death was due to cardio vascular problems.

The case remains under investigation by Det. Jake Wilson.
