Former Union College baseball player Gabby Juarbe has been named to the 2015 Frontier League All-Star Team, earning a starting spot on the Eastern Division Team at catcher. The game will be played on July 15 in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Juarbe, who played at Union in the 2012 and 2013 seasons, is currently in his second season with Frontier League’s Florence (Ky.) Freedom. At the halfway mark of the 2015 season, Juarbe is batting .347, with a .415 slugging percentage, while also adding two home runs and 17 RBI. Juarbe will be the lone member of the Freedom to start in the Frontier All-Star Game, as well.
At Union, Juarbe ended his career batting .301. In his senior season of 2013, he finished the year batting .320, smacking seven home runs, while recording 49 RBI. For his efforts, Juarbe was named to the 2013 AAC All-Conference Team.
Rosters for the 2015 Frontier League All-Star Game were voted on by league managers, coaches, general managers, broadcasters and members of the media who cover each club. Players were nominated by their respective field managers to be placed on the ballot.
The Frontier League is entering its 23rd season in 2015 and features 14 teams stretching from Pennsylvania to Missouri and from Kentucky to northern Michigan. The Frontier League annually advances the most players to MLB organizations of any of the independent leagues, and 27 former Frontier League players have played in the Major Leagues.
