It took the grand jury only 15 minutes to return to Judge Gregory Lay’s courtroom with a verdict.

Michael Mills, 35, of Green Road, was arrested June 9, 2014, and charged with rape and sodomy.

Mills was ultimately indicted for rape and first-degree sodomy with a child under 12 years of age with the use of forcible compulsion.

In January 2015, Mills was ordered to the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC) for a competency screening.

A trial date was originally schedule for April 8, 2015, however the date was set aside until as Mills was still at KCPC.

Finally, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Judge Gregory Lay read the jury’s verdict and sentencing recommendation. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict on both counts 1 and 2 of the indictment. They recommended life sentences on both counts to run consecutively.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 25.
