KC defeats Mercer County in second round of playoffs

After defeating Taylor County last week, the Knox Central High School Football team moved on to the second round of playoffs. They travelled to Mercer County Friday night to take on the Titans. The Panthers defeated the Mercer County Titans 19 to 17.

To recap the touchdown plays: Knox Central’s junior quarterback, Jaxon Stewart, threw a 47 yard pass to freshman running back, Adam Renfro, to score the Panthers’ first touchdown. Donovan Arthur, sophomore running back, threw a halfback pass to senior wide receiver, Frankie Robinson, to score their second touchdown of the evening.  Jaxon Stewart threw his second touchdown pass of the night to Tanner Wells, junior tight end, for a touchdown reception and Nick Martin kicked the ball through the uprights, giving the Panthers a total of 19 points.

It was close game, but thanks to a powerful defense and a relentless offense the Panthers came out as victors. Offensively, Donovan Arthur led the team in yards rushing with 87 yards, Jaxon Stewart followed with 29 yards, and Jared Hall rushed 26 yards. Hall also led the team in tackles with 12 solo tackles and Matthew Smith followed close behind with nine tackles.

Knox Central will be traveling to Wayne County on Friday to compete in the next round of the playoffs. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
