Knox Central Middle School honored their boy’s basketball teams Tuesday evening in the gymnasium. The Panthers celebrated the start of their season with a game against several of their teachers and performances by the cheerleaders.
The Knox Central Middle School cheerleaders stood in two lines to form a tunnel by the gym entrance for the basketball teams to run through. The eighth grade team was honored first and then the seventh grade team. As their names were called out one at a time they ran to center court where they received a round of applause from all of the Panther fans. The two teams then split up, eighth graders in blue at one end of the court and seventh graders in gold at the other end. Both teams began warming up as they dribbled from one to the other and then took a shot.
Once the boys were all warmed they took their places on the court to go up against several of the Knox Central Middle School teachers. A few of the teachers included the boy’s soccer coach, Michael Poff, the girl’s basketball coach, Janet Jones, and assistant football coaches, Christian Bruce, Derek Phipps, and Daniel Phipps. The boys were excited to play against their teachers and did not take it easy on them over the course of the four 12 minute quarters. During a short break in the game, the cheerleaders performed a cheer and a few stunts for the crowd. It was a close game up until the end when the team of teachers got a few points up on the boy’s basketball team. In the end, the teachers were the victors with a score of 63 to 51.
The Knox Central Middle School Boy’s Basketball Teams are just kicking off their seasons and can be seen playing middle schools across the Southeast over the next couple of months. The Panthers will travel to South Laurel to take on the Cardinals Thursday evening.
