Knox Middle Girl’s Basketball takes on Williamsburg fro Eight Grade Night

The Knox Central Middle School Girl’s Basketball Team faced Williamsburg Tuesday evening at home. With it being the last home game of the season, they honored their eighth graders who will soon be moving on to Knox Central High School: Ryleigh Swafford, Morgan Warren, Monica Brown, and Chelsie Mills. The eighth graders were escorted one at a time onto the court with their families, where they received gifts for their three years of dedication to the team. Once the game was underway, the Lady Panthers played with their hearts and gave it all they had, but fell to the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets 43 to 20.

Williamsburg put points on the board first only 30 seconds into the first quarter. Knox Central came back at the 5:15 mark and scored two points, then two minutes later Ryleigh Swafford scored more points for Knox Central, putting the Panthers ahead. With 2:31 left in the quarter No. 44 for Williamsburg landed a three pointer and the Yellow Jackets kept control of the ball. The Panthers took back possession and this back and forth play went on for the most of the game.

At the end of the first half the score was Knox Central: 13 Williamsburg: 17. It was in the third quarter that Knox Central began to fall behind. They were the first to score in the quarter, making it a close score, Knox Central: 15 Williamsburg: 17. However, No. 52 and No. 44 for Williamsburg both scored, putting the score at 15 to 19. The Yellow Jackets handled the ball really well. They often passed in a figure eight formation down the court and then landed a shot in the hoop. Williamsburg began scoring left and right so that by the end of the third quarter, the score was 15 to 32.

Knox Central scored first in the final quarter of the game to make the score 17 to 32. However, the Yellow Jackets were relentless and continued to score. The final score of the evening was Williamsburg: 43 Knox Central: 20.
