Lawrence, Defense Pace Bulldogs to 70-45 Win at TMC

Union College point guard Angie Lawrence (SR/Brodhead, Ky.) scored a game-high 17 points, as the Bulldogs rolled past Truett-McConnell (Ga.) on Wednesday night, 70-45, in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. The game was the AAC opener for the 2014-15 season for the Bulldogs.

With the win, Union moved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the AAC, while Truett-McConnell fell to 2-4, 0-2 in the AAC with the defeat.

In the victory, Union fell behind early, but went on a rally to close out the first half, and went into the locker room for intermission up by 10 points over the host Bears at 35-25. The Bulldogs continued to hold the lead over the remainder of the contest, pulling away over the final 10 minutes to coast to a 25-point victory on the road in their AAC opener.

Overall, Lawrence continued her impressive play in the early part of the season for Union with her 17-point evening, as the senior has now scored in double-figures in the the first three games of the season. Lawrence shot 7-of-13 from the floor in the win, while nailing three three-pointers.

Elsewhere, Reagan King (SO/Hindman, Ky.) added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Haley Perkins (JR/Glasgow, Ky.) rounded out the double-digit scorers on the evening for the Bulldogs with 10 points.

Defensively, the Bulldogs had a big night, forcing TMC to shoot just 38 percent from the floor on the night (18-of-47) and 27 percent from three-point range (3-of-11). Union also forced 31 turnovers in the victory, and in turn scored 34 points off those turnovers on the offensive end.
