Lay students spend ‘Prime Time’ reading

A Jesse D. Lay Elementary School hosted program is putting a whole new spin on reading for young students.

Called Prime Time Reading, the program invites twenty students to the school one afternoon a week for dinner, reading, discussion and a plethora of fun. The six-week program is funded through a Kentucky Humanities grant and helps young readers become engaged readers, all while making reading fun. Scholar Melissa Gibson and storyteller Garnet Chrisman take young readers on a journey during each session, bringing the book off the pages and opening up a lively discussion.
