LIHEAP program to start Nov. 6 to help with winter energy bills

The KCEOC LIHEAP Subsidy Program begins on Monday, November 6, 2017 and will end on Friday December 15. KCEOC will offer their Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) during this time to provide assistance with alleviating high energy costs for low-income Kentuckians who live in Knox County. The LIHEAP program helps keep children and families comfortable and warm during the winter months. The program will provide applications by appointment for applicants who have prior employment commitments. Please contact KCEOC LIHEAP staff for scheduling.

To apply: An application can be made from November the 6th through December 15th. Applications are generally taken in alphabetical order based on the first letter of the head of household’s last name using a set schedule (see attached schedule). If needed, an application can be made at any time during the above mentioned period if a heating emergency has occurred, if there is a danger of being disconnected or if the household is within 4 days of running out of heating fuel. The Subsidy Program will accept applications from 8:00 am till 3:00 pm.

Benefits: The benefit amount that will be received is based on the level of poverty and the type of heating fuel used. Those households with the lowest incomes that use the fuel with the highest heating season costs will receive the highest benefit. All eligible households will receive a benefit. Benefits will be in the form of vouchers made payable to the household’s primary heating fuel vendor.

Eligibility: Eligibility is based on level of income, assets, and responsibility of heating costs. Applicant’s income levels must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty level. Disabled, Home-bound and Seniors who need assistance applying may contact LIHEAP staff in order to request further application assistance.
