Local business hosting photo contest for charity

Legacy Nissan is hosting an online photography contest with a $500 cash prize that won’t go home with the winner. Instead, the winner will select a charity to receive the award.

“This method of directing a charitable donation is new to us, and we like it,” said Edward Hyde, dealer principal of the London business. “Asking participants to make the decisions certainly takes a lot of pressure off us. There are many worthy causes that benefit our local communities, and that really makes it tough to decide where to focus our investment.”

The contest, known as #Fall4Legacy, is free and open to the public. It also serves as a way to celebrate the beauty of Kentucky this time of year. Entrants are asked to submit fall-themed photographs with or without people. “We suggest yard decorations or even pictures of your kids wearing Halloween costumes,” Hyde said. “And we’re not opposed to selfies—especially since this entire contest is online and completely embraces the digital experience. We’re just looking for fun, colorful, family appropriate pictures that we can all enjoy.”

To enter or vote, visit www.legacynissan.com/events. The landing page includes an information form, along with an upload button to submit photographs. The form asks the participants to identify a charity and to provide a caption for the photograph using the hashtag #Fall4Legacy. For those who just want to vote, there’s a button for that, too. It’s at the top right side of the landing page. Official rules can be accessed at the bottom of the page.

To be eligible to win, the photographer must choose a nonprofit, tax-exempt club or organization that serves a group or community within a 50-mile radius of Legacy Nissan in London, Ky. This includes areas well beyond Barbourville, Corbin, London, Manchester, Somerset and Williamsburg. To check a specific geographic range through an online map service such as Google Maps, enter Legacy’s address: 395 West Highway 192, London, Ky.

Votes and photo submissions will be accepted until noon on Friday, Nov. 7. The crowd-sourced winner, along with his or her chosen charity, will be announced later that day on Legacy Nissan’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/legacynissanlondon.
