A former Knox County man was arrested Friday, Nov. 13, and charged with bigamy.
Curtis Croley, 54, of New Tazwell, Tenn., traveled to the Philippines where he married Jelma Aolona Croley in 2001. Curtis later returned to the United States and in June 2012, while still married to Jelma, he wed Ashley Barnes in Gwinnett County, GA.
Red flags appeared for Curtis when, in November 2013, he and Barnes filed for divorce in Knox County.
According to arresting officer, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Liford, Curtis claimed that his marriage in the Philippines was not legitimate.
Both divorces are now being processed through the Knox County court system.
Curtis is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, and he will remain out of custody on a $1000 bond.
