Jerry Baker is being charged with DUI following a wreck that ended with his car smashed into a local business’s wall.
According to Barbourville City Police Officer Adam Townsley, around 1:30 p.m. today, Baker hit a telephone pole while backing a maroon Chevrolet Lumina from a parking space at Cumberland River Behavioral Health. Baker reported to police officers that his vehicle did not have brakes and, after putting the vehicle into drive to move forward from the pole, he smashed into the business’s exterior wall.
“We attempted to do a test to make sure he was not under the influence. He became very disorderly and started cussing at officers,” said Officer Townsley.
Baker is being charged with driving under the influence, no insurance and disorderly conduct. Two female passengers are being taken to Barbourville ARH Hospital for treatment of injuries received during the wreck. The amount of property damage to the Cumberland River Behavior Health building is unknown at this time.
