Mountain Lodge 187 and the Barbourville Shrine Club presented a total of $1,500 in scholarships to three deserving seniors in honor of their academic achievements Friday evening. This is the first time the scholarships have been presented at the lodge itself.
“We wanted the students to know who we are and what we are about, so this seemed a good time to invite their families over for the presentation and let them spend some time with the masons as well,” said Clint Mays, Master of the Lodge.
Receiving $500 scholarships each were (pictured from center left) Collin Grubb of Barbourville City School. He plans to attend Union College and major in business. Lauren Hammons is from Knox Central. She plans to attend the University of the Cumberlands. Chelsea Gray, also of Knox Central, plans to attend Union College and major in criminal justice with a minor in pre-law.
Presenting the students with their scholarships were Clint Mays and Gus Callihan, President of the Barbourville Shrine Club.
Also pictured are masons Jinny Hendrickson, Billy Howard, Gus Callihan, Archie Miller, Jimmie May and Roger Mills.
The masons meet at 7:30 p.m. the second Saturday and Fourth Wednesday of the month. The Shriners meet at 6 p.m. the second Saturday of the month.
