Special to the Mountain Advocate

The Union College men’s and women’s swimming teams are ranked in the second NAIA Swimming and Diving Coaches’ Poll of the 2014-15 season, the organization announced Thursday. The men and women both come in ranked eighth in the lastest poll.

The Bulldog men are off to a 6-2 start in their meets and finished third out of sixth teams in the Union College Winter Invitational. Union was ranked seventh in the last coaches’ poll.

The women are off to one of the best starts in school history going 6-2 and finishing third out of eight teams in the Union College Winter Invitational while controlling most of the top times in the Appalachian Swimming Conference. The Bulldogs were ranked sixth in the last poll.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches from the NAIA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association. The rating was expanded to 10 teams beginning this season. The third Top 10 poll will be released on Feb. 25.

Union will be back in the pool on Jan. 31 with a double-dual meet against West Virginia Tech and Fairmont State (W.Va.).
