The Knox Central Lady Panthers fought hard against Middlesboro on their home field Tuesday night, but were mercy ruled with twenty minutes left in the game.

Knox Central won their game against Middlesboro last fall season, but fell short this time. The Panthers were slow to get moving and spent the majority of the game bunching up, abandoning their 4-5-1 formation.

Middlesboro wasted no time taking advantage of this and quickly worked the ball down the field time and time again, scoring goal after goal. Middlesboro relied heavily on their player #17 to get their offense going as she was their main scorer.

While Knox Central had a sloppy start, the girls picked it up in the second half. The Panthers began working together and got the ball down to Middlesboro’s goal where they created a few different opportunities to score, but just weren’t able to get the ball in the back of the net. They also stepped up defensively and only allowed Middlesboro to score three goals in the second half versus the seven goals they gave up in the first half.

The Lady Panthers understand that they are a very young team and are a part of a brand new program. They know that they haven’t reached their full potential, so they don’t hang their heads and give up when they are down. Instead, when they are losing, they play with heart and come out fighting twice as hard.  I expect great things from this team in the years to come.

Knox Central will travel to Middlesboro on Saturday to play against Claiborne at 10 in Middlesboro’s “Border Wars.”
