Mr. Millard Broughton, 85, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday, May 10 at his home. He was the son of the late Floyd and Della Doan Broughton born on January 19, 1933 in Knox County.
Mr. Broughton was a retired General Motors employee and a member of the Old Poplar Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the Solomon’s Key # 580 Lodge F & AM in Michigan, the American Legion Post # 16 in London and the local VFW. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dearly loved Jesus and his family.
He united in marriage with Shirley Jean Helton and to this union four children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson and Leanna Jean Garland; two sisters, Maudie Jones and Nannie Tye; two brothers, Frank and Johnny Broughton and a son-in-law, Kenny Johnson.
Survivors include his children, Shirley Gesell and husband, Ralf, of Belton, SC, Beverly Johnson of Woodbine, Bobby Broughton of Anderson, SC and Anita Evans and husband, Wayne, of Lexington, SC; two stepsons, William H. Dean and wife, Darline, of London and Steven Dean of Flat Lick; a brother, Henry Broughton and wife, Mary, of Westland, MI; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Broughton of Barbourville; two former wives, Shirley Parris of Indian Creek and Dorothy Howard Broughton of Barbourville; 19 grandchildren including Jonathan, Wesley, Jessica, Jackie, Angel and Jasimine Dean; 20 great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, May 15 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Terry Broughton officiating. He was laid to rest in the Payne Cemetery at Bimble with military funeral honors.
Casket bearers were family and friends.
