ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Union College women’s basketball player Lydia Nash (JR/Florence, Ky.) has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Nash led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week as the team posted an 80-70 win against Alice Lloyd (Ky.) and a 76-73 overtime win against IU-Southeast (Ind.). Two wins came in the Union College Holiday Classic. Union is 7-3 overall and 4-2 in AAC play.
In the two games, Nash averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. Nash scored 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting including her 1,000th career point as a Bulldog in the win over Alice Lloyd. She only needed 73 games to score 1,000 points for Union. Nash shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) from the field and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the foul line in the holiday classic.
For the season, Nash leads the Bulldogs and AAC in scoring with 18.4 points per game. She ranks seventh in NAIA Division II in field-goal percentage (58.8), 21st in points per game and 52nd in total points (184). In addition, Nash averages 5.1 rebounds per game and has collected eight steals on the season.
Union returns to action tomorrow when they visit Asbury (Ky.) for the final game of 2014 with tipoff set for 7 p.m. After time off for Christmas, the Bulldogs return to AAC action with a showdown against St. Andrews on Jan. 3.
