Barbourville will soon have a new council member.
City Council members are scheduled to appoint a council member to fill the position of council member to replace the post formerly held by Darren West.
West was recently appointed as mayor following the removal of former mayor David Thompson.
That appointment is on the agenda for Thursday’s regular city council agenda.
Under Kentucky law, the council has thirty days to appoint a new council member.
All six council positions, as well as the post of mayor, are up for election this fall.
The filing deadline for non-partisan city races is 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 12.
