No. 16 Bulldogs dominate TMC on the road, 77-45

The No. 16 Union College men’s basketball team bounced back from their first loss of the year in a big way on Wednesday night, blowing out Truett-McConnell in Appalachian Athletic

Conference action, 77-45, on the road. The game was the 2014-15 AAC opener for the Bulldogs.

With the win, Union moved to 3-1 on the year, 1-0 in the AAC, while Truett-McConnell fell to 1-4, 0-2 in the AAC with the defeat.

Things were close between the school early in the first half, as the Bulldogs clung to a 10-8 lead with 14 minutes to go in the period. Here, Union went on a big run to end the period and distance themselves

from the Bears, going up 23-10 with 10 minutes to go in the period after a 13-2 run.

Once Union grabbed a double-digit lead in the contest, they never gave it up, as rolled into halftime with a 39-25 lead over TMC. It was more of the same in the second half, as the Bulldogs opened an insurmountable 59-39 lead

with 10 minutes left in regulation.

From there, Union coasted, on their way to a 32-point victory on the road to open AAC play for the year.

Overall, guard JD Tucker (JR/Charleston, S.C.) led Union in the scoring department, scoring a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Elsewhere,

Fitzgerald White (SR/Miami, Fla. ) posted 15 points, missing just one shot from the field in the win (6-of-7), while Tyler Wagner (SR/Corbin, Ky. ) also missed just one shot (5-of-6) in a 13-point night.

Rounding out the top scorers for Union was forward Deante Johnson (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio), who added 10 points.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot over 50 percent in the victory (51.8 percent), while holding Truett-McConnell to just 32.6 percent shooting from the floor. Union also forced 22 turnovers and blocked six shots on the defensive end in the win.

The Bulldogs continue AAC play on the road on Saturday, traveling to Montreat (N.C.) for their second AAC tilt of the season. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
