Norris Braxton “Gooder” McWilliams, age 83, of Heidrick, died Sunday, May 6, 2018 at his home. He was a son of the late Joseph and Lelia Yeager McWilliams, born to them on June 29, 1934 on Long Branch in Cannon, Kentucky.
He was a Member of the Heidrick Holiness Church, and was a well known Builder and Construction Worker with the United Construction Company, and later after his retirement he worked as a self employed Construction worker.
On May 18, 1963, he united in marriage to Joyce Vivian Hembree, and to this union three children: Elisha, Mary Jane and Norris Jeffrey were born.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife: Joyce Vivian Hembree McWilliams on May 7, 2013; his twin grandchildren: Matthew and Emily; his two brothers: Johnny McWilliams and Charles McWilliams; his three sisters: Josephine Mills, Mary Locklard and Betty McHargue; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harvey and Anna “Dutch” Davidson Hembree; his sister-in-law: Diann Hembree Baker Johnson; his four brothers-in-law: Earl Mays, Lee Henson, Jerry McHargue and John Locklard; and by a special nephew: Ronnie Mills.
Gooder is survived by his loving family: his children: Norris Jeffrey McWilliams of Heidrick; Elisha Havens and Doug Broughton of Heidrick; and Mary Jane Callihan and husband, Josh of Bimble. A nephew who was more like a son: Rick Mills and wife, Sheila of Bimble. His God daughters: Tiffany Loveless and Tabitha Frederick. His grandchildren: Brandon, Yalonda, Kenna, Zach, Anna Beth, Emma Kate, Max, Mia, and Jack. His great-grandchildren: Ayshia, Millie, Bella, and Ezekiel. His two sisters: Doris Casey of California, and Faye Henson of Gray. His sisters-in-law: Janet McWilliams of Louisville, Kentucky and Jeanette Mays of Heidrick. His brothers-in-law: Stanley “Hoot” Hembree and wife, Faye of Gray, and Dennis Hembree and wife, Sharon of Barbourville; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives. His special loving Dog Companion: Charlie. The Family would like to recognize the life time Friends of their father: Faye and Don Hammons and Children; Burchel and Rita Blevins and Children; and Rex and Judy Carnes and Children.
Funeral Services for Norris Braxton “Gooder” McWilliams will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 12. 2018 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William R. “Mann” Cobb, Rev. Donnie “Duke” Hammons and Rev. Sylvester Dunn Officiating. Burial will follow in the Doolin-Tuggle Cemetery at Heidrick.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Family and Friends.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Heidrick Community; and the Heidrick Holiness Church Family.
The McWilliams family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Friday, and on Saturday after 11:00 A.M. and until the hour of service.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
