In accordance with KRS 350.093, notice is hereby given that Evans Coal Corporation, PO Box 50034, Knoxville, TN  37950 has applied for a Phase 2 & 3 Bond Release of Permit # 861-5348, which was last issued on 08/03/2010.  The application covers an area of approximately 147.95 acres located approximately 2.6 miles southeast of Artemus in Knox County.

The permit area is approximately 1.5 miles southeast of Highway 225’s Junction with Gregory Branch Road.  The operation is located on the Artemus U.S.G.S 7 ½ minute quadrangle map. The Latitude is 36° 49’ 55”.  The Longitude is 83° 48’ 47’.

The bond(s) now in effect are CDs, and Cash Bonds in the following amounts:  Increment #1 totals $19,700; Increment #2 totals $134,500; Increment #3 totals $153,100; Increment #4 totals $11,200; and Increment #5 totals $44,200.  Approximately 100% of the original bond amount $362,700 is included in the application for release.

Reclamation work performed includes:  backfilling, grading, fertilizing, seeding and mulching, which was  completed in May 2013.

A public hearing on the application has been scheduled for December 18, 2018 at 9:00 AM, at the Department for Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement’s Middlesboro Regional Office, 1804 East Cumberland Avenue, Middlesboro, KY  40965-1229.  The hearing will be cancelled if no request for hearing or informal conference is received by December 15, 2018
