One arrested in vehicle theft, search continues for second man

CORBIN, KY – On October 30, 2017 at approximately 11:45 pm, Knox County Deputy Mikey Ashurst responded to a vehicle theft complaint at a residence on Highway KY 1629 in Corbin.

On October 3, 2017 at approximately 6:30 am Deputy Claude Hudson received a report of a stuck vehicle at the junction of Highway KY 233 and Arbor Drive in Gray. When Deputy Hudson arrived he observed the stolen vehicle, a 2012 Toyota RAV 4 SUV, wrecked in the ditch and two men with it. When the men saw Deputy Hudson, they fled on foot. Deputy Hudson gave chase but was unable to apprehend them. Deputy Hudson recognized one of the men as Joseph Elliott.

The owner of the vehicle was notified and the vehicle was released.

On November 1, 2017 at approximately 2:00 am Deputy Ashurst observed Joseph Elliott outside the A&B Market in Gray. Deputy Ashurst arrested

Joseph B Elliott age 25 of Gray. KY charging him with Public Intoxication/Controlled Substance. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

On November 2, 2017 Joseph Elliott was charged with:  

Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Driving on DUI Suspended License, Leaving Scene of Accident, Fleeing or Evading Police-2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief-3dr Degree and Wanton Endangerment-2nd Degree/Police Officer.

The investigation is continuing pending apprehension of the second man.
