The Lady Panthers stepped up to the plate in the first round of the District tournament on Tuesday and beat the Barbourville Tigers 15-10.
The Tigers got off to a good start and led over the Panthers until the fourth inning. Runs made by freshman Meredith Russell and Addison Osbourne tied the game in the fourth.
Knox Central’s Hallie Gambrel pitched two full innings and struck out two batters. Kristen Smith then took over and pitched up until the seventh inning where she struck out four batters. Sarah Swafford pitched the last two outs of the seventh and allowed the Panther’s to take their win.
The Tigers would lead again in the fifth with a lead of 9-6, but the Panther’s bounced back in the last inning and beat the Tiger’s 15-10.
It was Knox Central’s senior night Tuesday and the seniors were honored before the tournament took place. Senior’s Montana Jones and Kristen Smith were both honored.
It was a good night for the seniors as the Panthers took down the Tigers in the first round of the 51st District tournament. The action will continue for the Panthers in the next round of the tournament against Lynn Camp.
