The Knox Central Panthers are preparing for the quickly approaching football season and they are looking better than ever.
The Panthers held their summer football camp in Artemus this past week that lasted four days. As a kick-off to regular season, the team worked hard and showed what they were made of.
“Our kids have worked extremely hard, and we’ve had a great off-season and were excited about what we can do this year,” said Scott Russell, head coach for the Panthers. “We have one of the toughest schedules Knox Central’s ever had, but our kids seem like they’re ready to step up to the challenge and have a good season.”
The Panthers have a total of nine returning seniors this year: Frankie Robinson, Matthew Smith, Jared Hall, Chris Orficie, Casey Patterson, Michael Brown, Jesse Meyers, Patrick Clark, and David Dunn.
“I really think our seniors are going to do a good job leading the team, “said Russell. “Although it’s not a huge group, I believe these seniors are going to lead our team in the right direction.”
Underclassmen for the Panthers are going to be leading the team as well. Junior Jaxon Stewart is the returning quarterback for the Panthers this year.
As camp commenced, six captains were voted by their teammates: Jared Hall, Patrick Clark, Chris Orficie, Matthew Smith, Casey Patterson, and Frankie Robinson. The coaches and team say they are confident that these players will lead their team in the right direction so the Panthers can accomplish the goals they have for the season.
“We got our first district championship last year, and our goal is to go out and win another one, then take the next step to win region” said Russell. “I think the first five games of the season will prepare our kids for the bigger games later on. We’re just ready to get this season started.”
The first regular season game for KC is Aug. 21 vs. Bryan Station at Madison Central High School.
