Emergency Management posts the following three things to remember if you have a power outage or power line down:
- Use extreme caution when using a generator. When putting it outside, set it up out of the snow so you won’t be electrocuted.
- Do not place a generator in a carport or anywhere covered near the house. If the wind is blowing, carbon monoxide can get into the house.
- Turn the main breaker off to prevent linemen from being electrocuted. If you don’t turn your main breaker off, you’re feeding power back onto the main electric line, which could get your linemen injured picking up a live line.
