Dinky Phipps, new head coach for the Lynn Camp Wildcats, speaks at his official announcement on Friday.

The big news was announced earlier last week, but Phipps was formally introduced as Lynn Camp’s new basketball head coach at an official announcement held at the school’s library on Friday.

“Obviously, we’re very excited,” said Anthony Pennington, Principal of Lynn Camp Schools. “We want to set the bar high and keep moving forward and I want our students to know that we won’t settle for anything other than having the best, and being the best we can be.”

This year Lynn Camp is hosting the District and All-A tournaments and Pennington tells what he foresees when that time comes around.

“We don’t want to just host these tournaments, we want to compete, and that what we’re going to do this year” said Pennington.

Pennington then ended to introduce Lynn Camp’s new head coach Dinky Phipps.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity,” said Phipps. “I think that we can be good if we work hard and I think that’s what it takes. I won’t accept nothing less.”

After many years with the Tigers, it seemed fit for Phipps to continue his coaching career at a smaller school.

“I’ve always been at a small school, and at a small school you have more opportunities than you would at a larger school and the first thing is the All-A classic,” said Phipps. “You have more opportunities to compete at small schools and I’m looking forward to competing in the tournaments again.”

Phipps then expressed how excited he was to begin his new journey with the Lynn Camp Wildcats and working with his new team.
