Sheriff ‘schools’ criminals

Suspicions arouse amongst the Artemus community about illegal activity around the old Artemus School. When Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith received multiple calls of complaint, he, along with Deputy Carl Frith and Court Security Officer Carl Bolton, decided to investigate.

While patrolling the area, a man and woman were found sitting in a truck in the school’s parking lot. According to Deputy Frith, several indicators of drug use were found, including needles and an aluminum can with residue still on it.

Jack Lake, 37, and Melina Bray, 40, both of Barbourville, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Deputy Frith said that the Knox County Sheriff’s Office will continue to patrol the area.
