Cancer survivor Sherry Payne raised money for the American Cancer Society Saturday at the Stivers Aquatic Center.  She swam for eight straight hours in memory of those who have lost their lives to cancer and dedicated this year’s event to Cameron Mullis and Cindy Hoobler.

Sherry Payne is a 16-year colon cancer survivor and asked friends to donate $16, representing the 16 extra birthdays she has had since her diagnosis in 1998. She had several who swam with her off and on and a cheerleading section.

Money raised for the American Cancer Society funds research, education, patient services and advocacy in order to help people stay well, get well, improve quality of life and fight back against a disease that has taken too many friends and family members from us.
