Shop with a cop seeks donations to help children

Special to The Mountain Advocate

“Shop with a Cop” benefits needy or neglected children from across Knox County at our event held in early December. “Shop with a Cop” provides a joyful holiday for underprivileged children who, without this event, may not experience one. The participating children are identified by Police Department Members, schools, churches and social services agencies.

On the day of the event, uniformed officers will volunteer their time to be with the children. The children participate in a law enforcement procession and head for a morning of shopping with their law enforcement partner.

This program was designed to benefit underprivileged children. The purpose of this event is to provide a happier holiday season to these children and to have the children interact with law enforcement officers in a positive setting.

“Please help us by making a donation to give the children of our community who without your help would not have a Christmas at all. Any donation that you make will be helping us put a smile on a child’s face this Christmas,” said Winston Tye, Barbourville Police Chief.

Donations can be dropped off at the Barbourville Police Department, Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm or mail to P.O. Box 1300 Barbourville, KY 40906.  All checks need to be made payable to Barbourville Police Shop with a Cop Program. If you have any questions please contact Chief Winston Tye at (606) 546 4562 ext. 242.
