A former Knox County School Board chairman indicted by the Knox County Grand Jury appeared in Knox District Court Tuesday for his arraignment.
Along with his attorney, David Hoskins, Dexter Smith entered a plea of not guilty and is scheduled for a pretrial conference on October 11. Also on that date, District Judge John Chappell will officially recuse himself from the case. A judge will be selected from Cumberland Region.
Hoskins requested a motion for discovery. Judge Chappell allowed Hoskins to enter the request, but will not rule on it, rather leaving the matter to a replacement judge.
