A proclamation marking a pivotal moment in the history of the United States was signed the week of September 17-23.
On Friday, September 12, a signing of the Constitution Week Proclamation of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was performed by Judge Executive Mike Mitchell and Barbourville City Mayor David Thompson.
The proclamation states September 17 marks the 238th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention, that it’s fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this document and its anniversary, and that Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America.
This signing proclaimed the week of September 17 though September 23 as Constitution Week, in reference to Public Law 915, and it asks citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the constitution had in 1787, by protecting the freedoms guaranteed through this guardian of liberties, remembering what lost rights may never be regained.
Members Nancy Hampton, Claudia Greenwood, Becky Huntley and Sheila Halter represented DAR at the signing of the proclamation.
