Tigers Celebrate Top-Performing School Status with Bulldog Victory!

Posted

Union Commonwealth University’s men’s basketball team defeated Alice Lloyd College 90-80 on Tuesday afternoon at Robsion Arena, earning its third consecutive victory in a game that doubled as a community celebration.
The matchup was open to the public at no cost and was scheduled during an extended lunch break, drawing a strong crowd that included an estimated 300 to 400 students from Barbourville Independent Schools.
The student turnout was part of a recognition effort for Barbourville Independent Schools, which recently retained its “Blue” status and ranked among Kentucky’s top-performing districts for accountability and assessment testing during the academic year. School officials partnered with Union to bring students to campus and provide an energetic presence for the game.
Union officials also acknowledged the university’s admissions team for attending the event in support of the Knox County Initiative, aimed at strengthening connections with local students and schools.
Athletics department leadership, including coaches, staff and student-athletes, organized the event as a way to connect the campus with the broader community.
Union’s win over Alice Lloyd capped the afternoon, giving the team momentum as it continues its season.
