Tourism to hold listening sessions

By Bobbie Poynter

Barbourville Tourism & Recreation Commission wants to hear what you think.

Here’s your chance to express your views and give your ideas for what Tourism can do to make Barbourville a more enjoyable place to live for those in the community, as well as those passing through or visiting for a special event.

The Tourism Commission is in the process of developing a multi-year strategic plan and would like to have input from the community.

“We have a lot of nice parks and trails to build upon, but we want to hear from the community,” said Denise Wainscott, Director of Barbourville Tourism. “We want to know what your ideas are for tourism, what you would like to see us do.”

Debbie Spencer, President of We Make Things Happen Corporation, will be facilitating the event. Spencer has spent the last few months becoming familiar with the community and looking to see what is already available to both residents and visitors.

“Now is the time to tell her what we want and help her gather more input,” said Wainscott. “We have a lot of assets that we can build upon, but we want to develop new things.”

Two listening sessions are being held on Jan. 29 and the public is invited to offer their ideas and comments. The day session is at noon at the Forcht Bank community room on Knox Street and the evening session will begin at 6 p.m. at the Barbourville & Knox County Visitor Center on 117 High Street.

Your comments on increasing tourism and developing our parks, trails, recreation and attractions are welcome. For more information contact the tourism office at 545-9674.
