Trial set for man accused of sexual abuse, sodomy, incest

Five years after indictment, a trial date has been set for a sexual abuse case.

John E. Sutherland, 74, of Corbin, faces a total of 24 counts of sexual abuse, sodomy and incest.

Most recently, Judge Michael Caperton held a hearing on April 6 in the Knox County Circuit Court to address the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Motion for Payment of Expenses. This will allow the circuit court to cover the travel expenses to bring in a key witness for this case.

“Comes the Commonwealth, by counsel, and moves this Court to Order the necessary expenses of [name redacted] …a material witness in the above listed indictment and her attendance is required in the prosecution of John Sutherland. [Name redacted] will testify to the criminal acts perpetrated against her by the Defendant, John Sutherland,” reads the motion.
